Pakistani media activists call for closer ties with IRNA

Tehran, IRNA- A delegation of senior managers, editors, and media activists from Pakistan have visited the headquarters of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in Tehran, stressing the importance of exploring avenues for closer media cooperation to counter one-sided Western news narratives.

During the tour on Monday, Nazir Ahmed Laghari, a prominent media figure who currently heads the news network BOL TV, stated that Western media outlets do not present an accurate picture of Muslim countries, particularly Iran and Pakistan, in their coverage of global affairs.

He stressed the need for closer collaboration and mutual support among media outlets in the region, particularly between Iran and Pakistan, to counter this biased news coverage.

Laghari further added that Western media often portrays a negative and distorted image of Iran, including misrepresentations of the role and status of women in the country. However, he pointed out that any foreign tourist visiting Iran would immediately realize the deceptive narratives spread by Western media.

Syed Manzar Naqvi, an influential media figure in Pakistan and the deputy chief editor of both the Karachi-based Financial Daily International and the Lahore-based The Nation, said that this was his second visit to Iran, where he has closely observed the country’s progress and advancements in various fields.

He viewed joint media conferences, bilateral exchange of news delegations, and the signing of memoranda of understanding on media cooperation as potential avenues for fostering a new era of media relations between IRNA and Pakistani media outlets.

Owais Rabbani, a well-known Pakistani television host and presenter of religious program, highlighted the common religious and spiritual bonds between Iran and Pakistan.

Rabbani expressed the willingness of Pakistani media and religious activists to organize online video conferences with their Iranian counterparts to further strengthen ties between the two Islamic countries.

During the tour, Reza Khoshlahjeh, director general of IRNA’s Foreign Service, presented his Pakistani guests with a report on IRNA’s domestic, regional, and international news activities. He stated that the agency’s senior management welcomes the enhancement of media cooperation with Pakistani media.

IRNA, with a history of approximately 90 years, currently publishes its news and productions in Persian and nine other languages, including English, Arabic, Urdu, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, and Turkish.
